Good oral hygiene once a day will prevent, and even cure gum disease, but it MUST include cleaning between the teeth in some fashion. Gum disease is a common dental problem that may result in tooth loss. Gum disease, also known as periodontal disease, is a condition in which the gums, deeper supporting tissue, and potentially the bone surrounding teeth become infected and inflamed. Gum disease can begin at any age. Gum disease is caused by plaque, a sticky film of bacteria that constantly coats our teeth. Gum disease also is believed to worsen existing heart disease. Gum disease cures and treatments depend upon the severity and the state of the disease.
